I have worked as a designer for about 15 years. It started with band posters and flyers. Then came CD ROMs, web sites, print and interface for mobile phones and devices. It's never been about the finished product—It's about working through an idea. Every product and every process is different and requires a different set of tools to communicate with and a different process to build upon.
I don't believe in thinking with the computer. The computer is a finish-work tool. Drawing is a much more effective medium for directing ideas into form. It doesn't have to look "good." It just has to transcend fluid thought to concrete and then it's an idea made real.
